Treat filters as map questions
Area and layer controls were framed around what users wanted to find, keeping the map response immediate and the current scope visible.
Interactive GIS · anonymized case study
Helping operations teams move from a wide map of assets to the few locations that answer the question at hand.
The context
Area and layer controls were framed around what users wanted to find, keeping the map response immediate and the current scope visible.
Markers provide a fast overview; focused panels hold the operational detail. This keeps dense attributes out of the primary map surface.
Frontend needs for geometry, identifiers, and layer states were surfaced alongside API discussions so map behavior and payload shape stayed aligned.
Observable outcome
The resulting workflow supports filtering map features by administrative area, inspecting locations, and exploring nearby spatial context. Customer names, production screens, and internal metrics are withheld.
Reflection
A spatial product is easiest to use when every layer earns its place. The main design work was deciding what should remain visible as the user moved from overview to investigation.
